Traverse City Film Festival to screen Iranian films

The Traverse City Film Festival in the US is to screen 2 Iranian films in different sections.

Iranian films ‘Retouch’ and ‘The Salesman’ have been scheduled to vie in different sections at the Traverse City Film Festival (TCFF) in the US.

‘Retouch’ by Kaveh Mazaheri will compete at the short film category of the event.

It has won Crystal Simorgh for Best Short Film at Fajr Film Festival as well as grabbing the best short title from Iran Cinema Celebration.

Produced by the Iranian Young Cinema Society, the short is about a young woman whose husband dies before her eyes and she just observes the tragic scene.

Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar-winning movie ‘The Salesman’ will be shown in the official competition.

Farhadi tells the story of a young couple named Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti) who move into a new apartment in the center of Tehran. However, an incident linked to the previous tenant dramatically changes their lives.

The film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film as well as double awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Launched in 2005, the Traverse City Film Festival is an annual film festival held at the end of July in Traverse City, Michigan.

The event was co-founded by Michael Moore, the Oscar-winning film director, well known for his anti-establishment films and documentaries such as ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’, ‘Bowling for Columbine’, and ‘Roger & Me’, along with author Doug Stanton and photographer John Robert Williams.

The mission of the Festival is to show "Just Great Movies" that represent excellence in filmmaking, particularly those rare independent films and documentaries by both noted and new filmmakers that do not receive mainstream distribution.

The 2017 edition of TCFF is slated for July 25 to 30.
